The outstanding theoretical economist Evgeny Zhelobodko, senior research fellow of the Center for Market Studies and Spatial Economics (NRU HSE) and a senior lecturer of the Novosibirsk National Research State University, died untimely on 27 of March, 2013.

Evgeny Zhelobodko was born on 25 of September 1973 in Karaganda, spent the most part of his life at the Novosibirsk Academic Campus, and died in Saint-Petersburg. He loved our city dearly. During his work in the Lab, he virtually moved here from Novosibirsk.

Evgeny Zhelobodko died in full bloom of his scientific work. His main paper "Monopolistic competition: beyond the constant elasticity of substitution", joint with Sergey Kokovin, Matheu Parenti and Jacques-Francois Thisse, was published in 2012 in Econometrica – one of the top economic journals.

Evgeny always was at the epicentre of academic life. He did a lot of research together with his colleagues and disciples, was the organizer of the most important Russian winter and summer schools, international conferences and seminars in economics.

We will always remember Evgeny Zhelobodko as an incredibly efficient and gifted scientist, as well as a kind-hearted person, who was close to all of us and never left indifferent.

We are willing to express sincere condolences to relatives Evgeny's relatives and close friends, as well as to all of those who knew him. It is a great loss for all of us.
