In the Big Hall of St. Petersburg Scientific Center, Russian Academy of Sciences at 5, The University Emb., on February 15, 2012 was held a joint meeting of the Public Workshop of the HSE Center for Markets Theory and Spatial Economics, the Scientific Council on the socio-economic problems in the St. Petersburg Scientific Center RAS and City Workshop on the economic-mathematical methods and models.

A report on "Models of Economic Geography" was made by Scientific Adviser of the MSSE Professor Jacques-Francois Thisse.

It is obvious that economic activities are unevenly distributed in space. What are the factors behind this? How and why do consumers choose their place of residence? What affects the location of firms? Why are there urban agglomerations? The report provides an overview of the main approaches and results in the new economic geography, answering these questions.
